Image guided biopsy/FNAC in head and neck cancers in covid 19 pandemic

Suspected growth in the region of base tongue, pharynx, and larynx need direct/indirect laryngoscopy for establishing Diagnosis Staging disease. The Covid 19 Pandemic has severely affected these modes examination because they are Aerosol Generating Procedures carry very high risk transmission Virus. Department Head And Neck Oncosurgery at KCHRC is one busiest department our Institute with an average annual footfall around 20,000 new patients. main objective study to know role Image Guided Biopsy/FNAC primary diagnosis Cancers. Retrospective analysis prospectively collected data 35 patients was done from April September 2020. Histopathological records along patient’s clinical were reviewed. Of patients, 23 underwent CT biopsies, 11 had FNA patient USG guided biopsy. In (CT Biopsy), biopsy taken tongue 16 Larynx two patient, Pyriform sinus(PFS), posterior pharyngeal wall, RMT (retromolar trigone), lower GBS Tonsil sites each. FNAC site PFS 7 Tongue 2 soft palate One undergone lesion. Out tissue specimen adequate 33 inadequate results supported both histologically clinically. histological confirmation found 88.6% cases (31/35), squamous cell carcinoma 74.3% (26/35), no malignancy 8.5% cases(3/35), specific lesion 5.7% cases(2/35), definitive 2.8% cases(1/35) cases(3/35). Repeat revealed malignancy. There post procedure complications noted. biopsy/FNAC a safe, reliable minimally invasive technique can be used cancers without generation current -19 Pandemic.
